☂ Maple Tree Update ☂

Today my little sprouted maple tree was planted outside. It is a fine looking tree ! Here is how it looked about a week ago.

I picked a spot on the north side of the house for the sprout to grow. That way it won't shade the garden, which is on the south.

Given that I live in grasslands, trees need lots of attention to make sure they grow. Over many acres we only have one wild tree, an elm. So this little maple will need lots of water and care if we want it to survive.

I'm up for the challenge !

How lovely! Congratulations to your new addition to your family, Kathryn! How about getting some indiginous, drought-resistant trees for your area? Have you looked into that? I'm sure there's something rugged enough to survive and very little water...ok, not a camel, but stills - it would be interesting to find out...

Is this a sugaring maple to get maple syrup from?

One large problem is irrigation. Anything we plant we have to water. We have a lilac bush in the yard that is 4 years old, yet it is still only about 2 feet tall.

Also, we have rabbits, deer and antelope who love to munch on new plants. So fencing is also required to keep things alive. So we are moving slowly and getting things planted around the house.

I don't know about the syrup - but if the tree survives maybe it will be a possibility !
