❅ Sock Knitting ❅

Lately I've been exploring the world of knitting socks. Of course I still enjoy my flowers, but who says I can't branch out a bit?

If you are like me and during the winter need some warm socks on your feet at night, I've just created a great pair for this purpose. As I learn sock making techniques, what better way to practice than by making some big comfy "sleeping socks" ?

This fun sock was made by using the ideas in Cat Bordhi's book "New Pathways for Sock Knitters". I used the garter toe ( a fun diamond start to the sock), the Fox Glove arch expansion, the standard heel, and the cuff from the Philosopher's House Socks. Yes, I blended all my current favorite components to create a super pair of socks !!

I have also discovered Ravelry. This website will allow me to post details and pictures of my sock projects. When I get my project page set up, I'll post again to provide a link. Not only will Ravelry be a fun way to display my accomplishments, but I might also be able to help another sock maker with what I learn. I have already used the site to find out about such things as favorite sock yarns, and what needle sizes others like to use. Since the site allows searches by project type, yarn, etc., it is an easy way to poke around and see what others are doing.

Here are closeup shots of the cuff and the toe.

Since it is a short sock, I wanted a cuff that really gave me something to pull it up with. Plus, I can tuck my pajama's into it for a nice toasty warm feeling !

I love the toe technique because it starts out as just a little diamond square that gets tipped on the side. From there I start knitting in the round. I'm using two circular knitting needles to make these socks. That took some getting used to.

I just finished these socks today and already I'm planning what comes next. Should I make more bulky socks, or explore the more delicate yarns? There are a lot of yarns to pick from, and new techniques to master. Should I try self striping yarn? 100% wool? What needle size? I guess getting answers to these many questions will take time. At least my feet will stay warm while I figure it all out !

Wow! I'm so impressed!!! You are knitting socks. Good for you! I love knitting and crocheting different things. It keeps my mind occupied. I'm finally back online, but have a cheaper (and much slower) internet connection. A lot of the blogs' photos don't load fast enough, but I just wanted to check in with you and say hello. Hope you had a nice Valentine's Day yesterday.
I'm having a President's Day Giveaway on my blog if you care to enter.
Have a nice evening!

Hi Doris, nice to hear from you. All is well here in Colorado. The sock knitting has been distracting me, but it sure is rewarding too. Take care!
